The Copper Flat mine hearings keep grinding on, and you can't blame folks around here for the wear it's showing on their faces. Water's been the hard currency of this valley since before T or C was even a name, and every word spoken about tailings and filtration is really a word about whether Elephant Butte stays full or runs dry. Meanwhile, up on Foch Street they're cutting ribbons and calling it progress, which is fine, but nobody's forgetting that the real development question gets answered down in those hearing rooms, where what we do with the ground beneath us determines what flows through the Rio Grande for the next fifty years.
