Ty's Take
A fire chief hurt in an explosion, a wildfire creeping across the county at 17% containment, and dust so thick you can't see the mesa—that's three separate weather and safety stories that tell the real story of July in Grant County. We're in that dangerous window where summer heat meets monsoon unpredictability, where a spark becomes a threat and wind becomes a weapon. The good news is we've got people trained for this, from the fire department to the National Park Service folks preparing for their 50th anniversary conference here. The harder truth is that containment takes time, and time is something we don't have much of when the Sacaton's still moving. Keep your windows closed, check on your neighbors, and if you're heading toward the Gila, assume the roads are still a mess.
