Ty's Take
The Bear Fire's finally giving people their lives back, at least the ones who've been watching ash fall on their porches and keeping a bag packed by the door. Set status lifted means you can stop sleeping in your car, stop wondering if tonight's the night the wind shifts and the whole calculation changes. It's the kind of news that doesn't make the evening feeds in Albuquerque, but out here it means somebody's kid can sleep in their own bed again, somebody's got their kitchen back. Grant County's seen plenty of fire seasons—the Gila country teaches you not to get cocky about containment numbers—but right now, for the families along that perimeter, those percentages mean everything. We'll keep watching the weather and the crews, because in this part of New Mexico, you know the season's never really over until November rains come.
