Ty's Take
A kid doing community work gets recognized, first responders are bracing for fentanyl exposure, and the county just voted to keep the mining companies out of Pinos Altos—all on the same news cycle, which tells you something about where Silver City is right now. We're caught between what built this place and what we've decided we'd rather it become, and that's not always a comfortable spot. The screwworms turning up down in New World don't care about our identity politics, though. Those practical threats—the drug trade, the wildlife diseases, the fire weather pushing that Bear Fire bigger—those are the things that'll shape this town whether we're ready or not. Nice to see a young person getting lifted up for showing up. We're going to need that kind of energy working on all of it.
