The city council's water talk comes at an interesting moment, with the Arkansas running high and the valley still mostly quiet before summer really cranks up. But anybody who's paid attention to the front range squeeze, or watched property values climb around here, knows the real pressure isn't what's in the river right now. It's what happens when Denver figures out we've got water, and what happens to a town the size of Salida when fifteen thousand people from Colorado Springs decide a second home up the valley makes sense. Officials saying we're fine for now is honest enough. For later, that's a different conversation altogether.
