Ty's Take

One of our own is heading to China next month to prove what we already know: that kids coming up through Rolla schools can compete and win on any stage that matters. A former Rolla High and Rolla Technical Institute student made the cut for the SkillsUSA World Competition, which tells you something about what's possible when you've got Missouri S&T down the road, solid vocational training in your own backyard, and people who still believe a skilled trade is a worthy path. Meanwhile, the No Matter What Mobile Library keeps rolling through the hollows and county roads where a brick-and-mortar branch would never reach, reminding us that access to books and learning isn't something only town kids get to take for granted. There's a lot happening this week that doesn't make the front page but says plenty about who we are out here in Phelps County.
