Holidays mess with everybody's routine, and the trash schedule adjustment is one of those small logistical headaches that matters more than it seems when you've got a family counting on pickup day. The eclipse photos remind us we had something genuinely rare happen over our heads a while back, the kind of thing people will still be talking about decades from now. Meanwhile, Downtown Rolla keeps getting better in ways you don't always notice until you're standing in it, storm sewers upgraded so the next heavy rain doesn't back things up the way it used to. Trash schedule adjusted for holiday
The City of Rolla Environmental Services Department will close on Labor Day (Monday, Sept. 7), shifting the weekly trash collection schedule by one day. Residents should put out Monday's trash on Tuesday and Tuesday's trash on Wednesday, with more details available at 364-6693 or rollacity.gov.

The City of Rolla has closed Rolla Street between 5th and 7th Streets and 6th Street between Main and Pine Street for storm sewer improvements beginning Aug. 31.
