Ty's Take

Kids Safety Day means different things depending which side of town you're on. For the families out toward Doolittle and Newburg, it's a chance to get their kids around people who actually know how to help them stay alive, which in rural country is something you think about different than folks in the city do. For the county folks running it, it's a few hours of their day where they can show up as something other than the law, and kids see them that way too. The slideshow probably caught some good moments, the kind that don't make the evening news but stick with a ten-year-old who remembers the sheriff's name now instead of just knowing he drives the big truck. That's worth a Saturday morning for everybody involved.
