Ty's Take
The solar car race pulling into Rolla on Tuesday is exactly the kind of thing that makes this town different, and not just because Missouri S&T's engineering students built one of the competing vehicles. You've got kids from schools across the country driving solar-powered cars across the country, and they're stopping here, in the middle of the Ozarks, because we're a real hub on their route. Meanwhile, Pine Street's getting torn up Monday, the heat's supposed to stick around through the week, and most of us will be sweating through the usual summer grind. But if you've got an afternoon free Tuesday, head downtown and watch these cars roll through. It's one of those moments where you remember that Rolla isn't just a college town or just a rural crossroads, it's both at once.
