Ty's Take
When grant money starts moving in this county, you can usually trace it back to somebody sitting in a room saying "we've got a problem worth fixing." The Northwest Energy and Missouri-Madison River Fund just handed out half a million dollars to projects that matter—water work, mostly, which in Montana is the same as saying survival work. Out here we know how it goes: dry years come, fires spread, rivers drop, and ranchers and towns both end up in the same tight spot. These grants don't solve anything permanent, but they buy time and expertise while the real work happens on the ground. Meanwhile, the torch run on the eighth gives folks a chance to do what small towns do best—turn out for their law enforcement and remind each other we're all in this together.
