Ty's Take
Brownfield talk in a small town usually means one of two things: either somebody's finally going to clean up an eyesore, or somebody's going to spend five years in meetings while nothing happens. Red Lodge is in that conversation right now, looking at parcels north and south of town, and for once the machinery seems to be turning—the EPA just put real money behind watershed protection statewide, and locally we've got the senior center holding down the community end of things. The tight part is what comes next: whether we move fast enough on remediation before another dry summer sends wildfire smoke into the valley and turns every bare patch into a potential runoff problem. This country doesn't stay patient long when development could happen or when the water question gets louder.
