Ty's Take

The fire season's here again, and you can feel it in the air—not just the smoke, though God knows that's coming. It's the weight of it, the way every dry week in June feels like a countdown, the way folks who've lived here thirty years start talking about evacuation routes over coffee. We've got the Ferris Fire closing forest south of us, the San Juans are tinderbox dry, and meanwhile our mental health folks are doing real work trying to keep people steady through the anxiety of it all. That's the Archuleta County we're living in now: neighbors looking out for each other's safety while we also look out for each other's peace of mind. It's not the place we used to be, but it's the place we're learning to be.
