Ty's Take
The screwworm alert coming down from Colorado Parks and Wildlife is the kind of thing folks around here used to worry about plenty—livestock losses that could gut a ranching operation in weeks—and then stopped worrying about because we'd beaten it back decades ago. Now it's creeping north again, which means the county's animal inspectors are going to be working harder and ranchers need to stay sharp about what to look for and report. It's a good reminder that in cattle country, especially this close to the border and the open range, you can't ever really let your guard down. The disease doesn't care much about property lines or whether you've got a second home in town or you've been running cattle here for four generations.
