El Rito's volunteer fire crew got some help this week, which is the kind of news that doesn't make the regional pages but matters more than most things that do. A donation came through when it came through, and out here where the nearest paid department is a long way off, that's what keeps the gear fresh and the trucks running. Up and down the valley, from Chama to Coyote, these volunteers are the difference between a manageable situation and a bad one, and they do it on their own time and their own dime most nights. Worth remembering when you pass the station.

El Rito Volunteer FD Gets Donation
The Tres Semillas Foundation has awarded a $36,000 grant to Friends of the El Rito Volunteer Fire Department to purchase specialized equipment. The fire department has already selected extrication gear that will help responders better handle vehicle crash situations in the area.
Fishing Conditions Unchanged in NM this Week
Northern New Mexico anglers can expect excellent fishing conditions as the season transitions from summer to fall. Smallmouth bass fishing at Conchas Lake has been particularly productive this week for those using ned rigs and curly tail jigs.
