Ty's Take
The Barela case closing out at the state Supreme Court level means this fight over who runs things in Rio Arriba County—and how—isn't going to get any prettier on the way down. These land-grant communities have long memories and longer grudges, and when the courts won't rehear something, people stop looking for legal answers and start looking at each other different at Bode's. The real settling still has to happen up here, in the places where families have held ground for four hundred years and trust gets spent like water in a dry summer. This one's done in Santa Fe but it's far from over where people actually live.
