Ty's Take

Couple of courthouse stories this week that don't sit easy, even by the standards of a place where people live hard and sometimes settle things harder. A woman gets beaten for trying to help someone navigate disability benefits—the kind of work that keeps people afloat up here when the ranch work runs out or the body gives. And a man walks free from a jailhouse stabbing after charges get dismissed, which means somebody made a choice somewhere about what matters and what doesn't. These are the stories that remind you how thin the line gets between community and chaos when money's tight, tempers are worn, and folks forget that next winter comes for all of us.
