An indictment handed down this week in Rio Arriba County means somebody's heading to trial over an assault—the kind of local trouble that usually stays local until the law decides it won't. In a place this size, you know the names involved before the paperwork clears, and the whole valley's already formed opinions. What matters now is whether the system works the way it's supposed to, whether the person charged gets a fair hearing, and whether the person hurt gets some kind of accounting.
