Ty's Take

Slow week up the valley, which around here usually means folks are out working—calving season doesn't wait for news cycles, and the acequia boards have their hands full sorting water rights before the runoff peaks. The quiet weeks are when you notice who's stayed and who's just passing through; the ones who know the Chama River's moods and the ones taking photos of Pedernal for their Instagram are two different kinds of people entirely. Come summer, when the second-home crowd rolls in and the art workshops fill up the rooms in Abiquiú, the valley will be full of voices again. For now, it belongs to the people who live here year-round.
