The Mitchell Fire is out, and that's worth saying plainly: thanks to crews from California and Arizona who came up here to help, thanks to our local firefighters who know this plateau like nobody else, and thanks to the monsoon that finally showed up when we needed it most. After Cerro Grande and Las Conchas, this town doesn't take fire season casually, and when the lightning strikes, everybody remembers what can happen. The bigger picture is that we got lucky this time, we got help, and we got rain. Around here, that's a combination that doesn't always line up the way it did this week.
