Not much gets under the skin of a working town faster than somebody hanging around a parking lot with no clear reason to be there. Lebanon police fielded a call this week that speaks to something folks around here deal with more often than they'd like, that creeping unease when strangers show up and don't seem to have anywhere to be. It's the kind of thing that used to get handled with a conversation and a suggestion to move along, and maybe it still does most of the time. But it's worth noting that our police department is out there on these calls, the small stuff that keeps a town feeling like home instead of a place where anything goes. Nothing dramatic, nothing that makes the evening news in Springfield, just officers doing the work that actually matters to the people trying to run their lives here.
