Ty's Take

Three men who spent their lives in Doña Ana County—George Jackson at 70, Paul Lawrence at 84, Timothy Hourigan—are gone this week, and that's the kind of loss that settles different depending on who they were to you. The housing market's doing fine, the bulletin says, spring inventory up and prices holding steady, which means somebody's building on land that used to grow chile or pecans, and somebody else is glad for it. That's how it goes when a town grows from what it was. The people who remember what came before get smaller in number, and the ones moving in don't know what they're replacing until much later, if at all.
