A bad stretch of road claimed another life Tuesday night when a motorcyclist didn't make it home on Route 106, the kind of accident that settles heavy in a county where everybody knows somebody. Same night, firefighters were out fighting brush on the other end of the county, which is how it goes in spring when everything's dry and one careless moment can spread fast across timber land. Meanwhile, the county's moving forward on Paddy Creek bridge, getting bids out for what needs doing, the kind of steady infrastructure work that doesn't make anybody's day more interesting but keeps these rural roads from falling apart under us. It's the way a week goes out here: loss, emergency, and the daily business of holding things together.
