Police work around here this week looks like what it usually does: somebody's property walked off, traffic enforcement kept the highways safer than they'd otherwise be, and one situation escalated to where arrests had to happen. None of it surprises anybody who's lived in Texas County long enough to understand that most crime is opportunity meeting poor judgment, usually in broad daylight where neighbors can see it. The deer reports out of the Department of Conservation are worth paying attention to if you've got stock on your place or hunt these woods, though, since hemorrhagic disease spreads fast once it takes hold. Meanwhile, the Kelly bronze sculpture project is moving forward, which means something permanent is coming to Houston that wasn't here before, and that's the kind of news that actually sticks around longer than this week's police blotter.
