Michelle Renee Sanders, who taught here in the Hatch Valley schools for thirty-seven years, passed away this week at seventy-eight. That's a generation and a half of kids who learned their letters in her classroom, who probably still remember the sound of her voice calling roll on a September morning. In a town this size, a teacher like that becomes part of the place itself, woven into how families think about education and what it means to raise children right. The Hatch Valley loses something real when someone like Sanders goes. Her family and the school district have our respect.
