Ty's Take

Three people gone in one day, two of them taken while they sat in wheelchairs, and the rest of us are left with the weight of it and the unanswered questions. Meanwhile, down at City Hall, the conversation this week circled around whether Billings can afford to hire one full-time person to tackle housing, as if the math is the only thing that matters when people are struggling to find a place to sleep or, apparently, to stay safe where they are. The energy sector keeps humming along, mineral rights and data centers and tours at Montana Tech with federal officials, which is good for the region and we need that. But somewhere between the economic development and the volleyball scores, a community has to find room to ask itself harder questions about who gets protected and who doesn't.
