Ty's Take
The jail tour this week laid out what everybody in county government already knew but couldn't quite say out loud until they walked those corridors: we've grown too big for the cell block we've got. Billings has been the regional hub for thirty years now, pulling in energy workers and medical folks and families looking for opportunity, and the Yellowstone County detention center has been absorbing the pressure without much fuss. But fuses have limits. The good news is city leadership's moving on a full-time administrator who might actually have bandwidth to push infrastructure projects through without everything grinding to a halt. That matters, because this isn't a problem that solves itself, and it's not going away.
