Ty's Take

The Yellowstone County sheriff's office is asking for more money again, and this time the numbers actually add up—they're hiring, not padding. That's the kind of budget request worth taking seriously in a county that's grown as fast as ours has, where response times matter and the gaps between towns get longer the further east you go. You can argue about whether it's enough or too much, but you can't argue with the math when it's tied to actual bodies on the payroll and actual calls that need answering. The real question is whether the commission's willing to fund the operation we say we need, or whether we're going to keep running it lean and hoping nothing goes sideways when it matters most.
