The snowpack numbers out of the Upper Yellowstone are sitting at 75 percent of median—record lows in some places—which means water managers and ranchers are already doing the math on what a dry summer looks like for cattle operations and irrigation that's been tight the last few years anyway. You don't need a degree in hydrology to know that when the mountains aren't holding what they used to, the whole county feels it downstream, and this one's worth watching closer than usual as we head into spring runoff.
