Ty's Take

When a U.S. Senator shows up in the valley to talk potatoes and water instead of just talking at you, it's worth noticing—especially one who actually knows the difference between barley and malting barley. Hickenlooper's got his own history in this country, and whether you voted for him or not, a politician who takes time to listen to growers instead of flying over us on the way to somewhere else deserves credit. The San Luis Valley's been fighting the same fights for decades—water rights, ag economics, staying alive while the world changes around us—and somewhere in that conversation between a senator and a farmer is where policy either starts making sense or stays broken. That's where it matters.
