Ty's Take

Kathy Woods stepping down from city council and the county commissioners weighing term limits for the DA on the same week—that's the valley's way of reminding us that institutional memory matters in a place this size. You can count on your hands how many people have held these offices over the decades, and when one steps away, it leaves a hole that doesn't fill itself. The street tax question is really about whether this town wants to keep its roads from falling apart while the population stays steady, which most of us know the answer to already. What's harder is finding people willing to show up to meetings, take the heat, and do the work for the next ten or fifteen years. That's the real shortage in Alamosa right now.
