Ty's Take
The city's rolling out AI software for the police department while launching a mental health initiative aimed at young people—which tells you something about where we're at right now, doesn't it? We're trying to catch problems faster and smarter on both ends, the prevention side and the enforcement side. Whether it's camera technology flagging traffic violations or community programs catching kids before they're in crisis, there's a sense that the old ways of doing things need an upgrade. That's fine, maybe necessary. But any time a town this size is reaching for new tools—whether it's algorithms or wellness programs—you have to wonder if we're actually addressing what's breaking people in the first place, or just getting better at managing the damage. Still, you can't fault the intent. The Hospice del Valle walk on the 26th reminds us we've got people in this valley doing the hard, quiet work of caring for the dying and the grieving. Maybe that matters more than any software ever will.
