Ty's Take
Every summer around here comes down to the same calculation: how many weekends before the heat really sets in and people stop venturing out, before water becomes the only thing anybody wants to talk about again. This first big one—Society Hall packed for the songwriters, families out doing what families do—that's the valley telling itself it's going to be a good season. It usually is, those first few weeks, before the Rio Grande arguments start up again and the heat settles in like it owns the place. So catch it while it's here. The weather won't stay kind forever, and neither will people's patience with each other once July rolls around.
