Ty's Take
The El Pomar Foundation's grant to a Saguache County outfit is the kind of news that doesn't make anybody's blood pressure spike, but it's worth noticing anyway—these Colorado Springs foundations have long memories about the San Luis Valley, and when they write checks our way, it usually means somebody upstream took the time to build the case that the work matters. Grant money is how rural nonprofits survive the lean years between fundraisers and donations, so whatever that Saguache organization is doing, they just bought themselves runway. Meanwhile, somebody's finally taking that aerial tour of the Valley most of us should probably take ourselves—you can drive these roads your whole life and miss the patterns, the way the water flows, the way the communities sit on the land. Maybe that's the real story: knowing your country takes both perspectives, ground level and from the air.
