Ty's Take

There's not much mystery in how high school sports shake out most years around here. The kids show up, they work hard, they win some and lose some, and by season's end you've got a pretty fair picture of who's got the depth and who doesn't. That's how it's looking early for our teams this fall, nothing shocking in the results but nothing to apologize for either. Tularosa's got some backbone in their football program, Artesia's got girls who can move a soccer ball, and our cross country runners are doing what they've always done, which is showing up to compete. Come October and November we'll see who's really built something worth talking about.

Tularosa's football team held off a furious Ruidoso comeback to win 29-28 at W.D. Horton Stadium on Aug. 28. The victory improved the Wildcats' record and provided them with confidence heading into the remainder of their season.
