Ty's Take

Word came through this week that the Sacramento peaks are running clear and cold right now, which means two things in a place like this: somebody's going to have a damn good weekend up in the mountains, and somebody else is probably going to be asking real hard questions about where that water's supposed to go once it gets down here. We've been through enough dry cycles to know better than to take a good water year for granted, and we've been through enough fights over who owns it to know that fishing reports are never just fishing reports. Still, there's something to be said for a morning on the Ruidoso or the Rio Bonito when the light's right and the trout are moving—reminds you why people fought so hard to stay in this basin in the first place.
