Ty's Take

A woman from up in the pines gets sentenced for killing her husband, and down in the archives somebody's dug up old photographs of families swimming at the municipal pool back when a Saturday night meant a picture show and a picnic basket. That's the Alamogordo that runs through the paper today—the dark thing that happens behind closed doors in a mountain house, and the bright thing that used to happen in summer when the basin felt smaller and safer and everybody knew where everybody else was. The economic development report sits in between, unsigned promises about what comes next, which is maybe the only honest thing we get. This county's always been caught between what it was and what it's trying to become.
